The Degree to which English Language Textbooks Take into Account the International Standards for Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) to Develop a Study unit in Light of Them for Eleventh Grade

Abstract
This study revealed the degree of inclusion of the International Standards for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TESOL) in the English Language Textbook (Revised Version, 2024) for the first semester in Jordan for the eleventh grade, which consists of five units. The study followed a descriptive-analytical approach. The tool was developed based on the international standards. The results showed that the language and language skills domain ranked first with (265) occurrences, representing a percentage of (46%). The sub-criteria that represented the highest frequency were the inclusion of exercises and activities employing English grammar, with (57) occurrences, representing a percentage of (21.4%). The assessment and evaluation domain included the least inclusion of the standards in the textbook, with (17) occurrences, representing a percentage of (0.3%), and a very low degree of inclusion. The study recommended the necessity of including the International Standards for Teaching English as a Second Language to varying degrees in the textbook, as it is suitable for use in secondary school education, which then qualifies for university education
